A special thanks to everyone who braved the cold to come to Fill in the Blank’s first gallery opening! It was a smashing success. I believe we went through something like 26 bottles of wine? Overall, it was really fantastic that all our hard work paid off. It goes to show with a little bit of determination things will work out. I tend to overly cautious when I tread into the unknown, but it’s absolutely wonderful having to tread the unknown with four other creative ladies. Here are some photos from the opening and the space. Enjoy.

And with that, I think it is almost time for another art giveaway, so check back soon. I am off to relax this lovely Saturday evening.

Tonight is the opening of the gallery! If you happen to be in the Chicago please swing on by. I am pretty excited and looking forward to enjoying the night with the four other ladies that made this possible. Hope to see you there!

My friend Carissa forwarded me an email wishing us a “Bonne Année – Feliz Ano Novo – Happy New Year – Auguri” from the little hotel we stayed at in Paris last year. I never expected a place to steal my heart like Paris did. I told myself repeatedly in my head, “it’s just Paris.” But, Paris does have that “je ne sais quoi” about it, and I fell in love despite attempts at keeping my heart at bay. This lovely photo was attached to the email and I thought I would share. It’s been a hectic week and just the thought of this place leaves me at ease.

As far as Paris, I am coming back at 30, the boy in tote. Just wanted to share this lovely photo! I’ll be up late cutting away at a big freelance project. Bonsoir!

Happy Inauguration Day! People have been so kind today in the city, I wish it could be like this always. I was teary eyed earlier watching the ceremonies in DC unfold. I wish I could have been there, but I am lucky to have had tickets to attend the festivities in Grant Park on Election Night. I am inspired.
In art news…

This is a two color press for an upcoming letterpress swap. Called “Feathers and Twigs” printed on Crane’s Lettra. The letterpress swap was organized by Paper Stories – a hometown letterpress studio specializing in all things letterpressed. I can’t wait to see what everyone else does or get my prints in the mail!

For the Birds
Here is a new letterpress print – two colors on Crane’s Lettra paper hand pulled with love on a Vandercook Universal 1. She is up in the shop.
Sometimes I want to do something brash and live an unconventional life style! Too bad we are in a recession, I feel like I should stay still.

is a little Eames.. or two.

I was minding my own business, wrapping up a big freelance project when Drew walked through the door. We did the normal *kiss kiss*, “How was work” deal. He stepped out again for a moment, only to bring in two molded plastic Eames chairs! He had told me about them a while ago, but then (in typical boy fashion) dismissed the idea of the chairs. We don’t need chairs. Not wanting to be a pain or a nag, I brushed off the idea, only to be surprised! Surprises are more fun anyway and Drew is incredibly good at surprises. Now that we have them he is even thinking about getting a plywood molded Eames! Keep bringing them in, baby.
What I absolutely love about Ray + Charles (besides their innovation, love of the process, and design) is that they were a husband and wife team. I am a huge fan of any husband + wife team. Another husband and wife team I adore: Leo and Diane Dillon. I love how their competitive artistic nature brought them together in a collaborative marriage of illustration. Oh, the modern love story!
Sorry for the lack of posts. I’ve been juggling too much lately and got a little sick. Other than that, braving the elements known as Chicago. I am going to spend some quality time in the letterpress studio wrapping up two prints and hopefully posting very soon! Please stay warm and check in on your neighbors and friends during this unbearable winter.
