Based off of Polish folk art – a one color 5″ X 7″ Wycinanki birds. Printed on a Vandercook Universal #4 on Lettra paper.

Niebieskie Ptaki, Blue Birds
Wycinanki (pronounced Vee-chee-non-kee) art is actually made by paper cut outs, but since I’m no pro with scissors or an exacto, I choose to create this by my favorite means of printing – the letterpress. I suppose that really doesn’t make it Wycinanki, since the word itself means “paper cut-outs” in Polish. It’s like a paper cut snowflake we all love making during the holidays, just a little more intricate and lots more roosters!

and she had just arrived to Nashville.

She is now in the shop.
8″ x 8″ 2 color letterpress print on a lovely Lettra paper. Hand pulled on a Vandercook Universal #1. If I ever have a press of my own, I would seriously become addicted (wait, I already am)… I don’t have an addictive personality, but for letterpress I do. I’d probably let myself go, lose my job, and print all day. If only…
Happy Wednesday! Stay warm!

It’s so nice to come across amazing studios in our neighborhood. It’s like a hidden world! Last night I went to check out Starshaped Press’s studio. They have two C + P presses + a small table top, a flat bed press, and an amazing wood type collection that makes my heart flutter.
Here are some photos of their amazing set up:

I bought Drew the Lithunian poster, an early little Christmas gift for my Lithuanian-born dear!

Here is our flickr account, add us if you would like to keep up.
Also, you can buy my prints and Paper Parasol cards at Wholly Craft in Columbus, Ohio. They have a wonderful website and their store looks amazing. I hope to visit one day while crossing through Ohio.
Happy Friday everyone.

A little peek at the letterpress studio at Columbia…

I am battling a little sickness! I made some homemade chicken soup earlier, so hopefully that helps. I will post the new letterpress print sometime soon, in the meantime, have a lovely evening.

The last of the Holiday Cards are now in the Paper Parasol Shop.
I’ve been bombarded with two freelance projects this week. Plus we FINALLY got the keys to the gallery space and have a lot of work ahead of us. I’m usually pretty good with keeping on top of things, put the past few weeks have proved to be a build up. I even forgot to pay my cell phone bill last month, so I had a pretty nice late fee on that sucker. (ugh) I’d also like to find whomever invented the 9-5 work week (and deemed 2 weeks off plenty of time) and give them a swift kick! Seriously. I usually take on more than I can fit on my plate, but lately it’s been more than one person can handle. Our apartment has become a mess too. With both Drew and I working and coming home and freelancing, there’s been no time for anything else. Maybe we should hire a housekeeper to come in once every other week. :I I really need to organize my life, except the things I deem important to me and my career I just can’t cut out at the moment.
{phew} sorry for the vent. Maybe what I need is some time to myself and to spend with Drew. During the week him and I are like ships passing in the night.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week. As soon as we arrived at JFK airport Drew and I hit the ground running. I’ve been to NYC lots of times before and it’s always a nice escape for me because I am too busy to think of all the work at home. New York has a certain vitality and energy unmatched here, but how amazing was it for Chicagoans last night. (And for so many other things on so many other levels.) I will post photos later.
Last night we had the hottest tickets in the world – tickets for the Obama rally in Grant Park. It was incredible feeling such an overwhelming sense of solidarity. After months of following the election closely, listening to podcast after podcast and hoping… it all came to a final conclusion. We all have a lot of work ahead of us, so let’s get to work!
Here are some shots of NYC + Brooklyn

Madame X herself and the Empire State Building from the top of the Rock.

Cute shoes and tights are a must.. along with telephone wires and tied up shoe laces

A beautiful painting at a flea market and Katz deli pickled everything – yum!

Don’t forget – the art giveaway is tomorrow!
