Entries from April 2008

Pretty earrings my friend Courtney made.
I bought these at DEPART-ment. I love the earrings because they are so light! You can find Courtney’s website here and her etsy here. Courtney’s pieces are beautifully crafted. The documentation + presentation of her pieces are lovely. So many times I see beautiful pieces with poor photography. Photographing your work takes time, thought, and care just as much as the craft you make.
I also really liked Flapper Girl’s jewelry! Looking forward to more shows (and jewelry buying this summer!)

Lots of good stuff at DEPART-ment this time around!

top photo: a shot of the space
bottom photo: I Love Pink Dots tea towels. I love the silk-screened designs!

Both photos: Meghan Lee Designs. I love the little dogs, and since we can’t have a dog of our own at the moment, this one may work!
I will post some fun jewelry tomorrow - right now I am messing around with some chocolate chip cookie recipe (unsuccessfully… so far).
goodnight!

I have been awful at keeping up with Paper Parasol . I am trying to rework the website, just ordered business cards, and planning on busting out the screen printing some time this weekend. I also need to get going on collaged cards.

Went to the opening of DEPART-ment last night. There was lots of good stuff there and a good crowd. I will post more on the goodies there later.
{ and in scooter news }
Drew and I went to look at scooters today. I completely fell head over heels for vintage Vespas. There was a nice smaller frame one, but it wasn’t for sale. Apparently, the smaller frames are super hard to come by and many fists fights have been started over them. I’ve decided to get my motorcycle license (probably in July) and just keep hunting around for “the one.”

{On an unrelated art note}
For I long time now I’ve been coveting this beauty.

oh and I am just so close to going to the scooter store (which happens to be not so far away from where I live…) I’ve never owned a car in my life, so this is kind of a big deal for me. Maybe I should wait a few days before I do anything drastic…. To Stella or not to Stella?

I’ve been MIA lately. There are good reasons. Here are two:

I am excited about the Spring Show at Architectural Artifacts! Hopefully, it will be a good turn out. I am also trying to organize my art between three different things hitting me one after the other - a hanging in a local joint and these upcoming shows.
In other news, I love, love, love this weather! Also loving: tulips, Mississippi Mud Pie, and breakfast on the back porch.

The least fun thing about art shows is framing (oh, and pricing). So, I have been really good about not saving it all for the last minute and framing as I go along. Yesterday Elena with her Cat was born and promptly placed in her frame today.

Know where I can get her outfit? I also wonder how original 4X6 drawings in frames would do on etsy. Maybe once the smoke clears with the art shows, I will try to update the shop once a month with original drawings in frames. Of course, they would cost more being originals, but I am a complete fan (if I can afford to) purchase original pieces over prints.
The rest of the ladies found homes as well!

Today I am dragging my brother around the city to drop off DEPART-ment flyers for the upcoming art/craft show.

It’s so beautiful out today! I have the windows open, the birds are chirping, and the neighborhood kids are running around (hey, don’t they have school?). The sky is so pretty today and the clouds are constantly moving, much like they were one of the days we were in Paris. I posted a shot from the top of Eiffel looking towards the Sacre Coeur. These were from my Elan 7E film camera I took out of hiding for the trip and finally got around to scanning a photo. It’s wonderful to have photos in your hands (matte finish with a white border, of course!) instead of a digital album. I am old fashioned!

mmm at the Sacre Coeur. Carissa and I had hit up Laduree and I had bought a few single macaroons to savor on the steps under this beauty.

Finally got around to printing the second gocco print, so now the guy has some company. I just put these two in the shop .

Adieu!

A little preview of a two-color gocco print on Mr French cover stock in whip cream (names and colors so good it’s my 25 year old version of a candy store…).

Hopefully, his misses will be joining him in a few days and be in the shop! I just got into an art fair I was hoping to get into for early May! So now I really need to get to work.

Every time I spend a day with screen printing I usually find myself a bit flustered. It’s definitely a learning process and I learn something new every time. Hopefully I can keep all these mental notes handy for next time. Today I did a screen printed version of my drawing Ala and the Garden . It’s a two color print on Mr. French paper in spearmint. (while chewing spearmint gum!) Overall, despite the frustrating moments, I had fun doing this. That is really all that matters when it comes down to it.

I put 2 up in my store
My brain is mush after this weekend, I often find my plate far too full. Do I already need another holiday?
