Oh, happy Sunday! Last night Drew and I went to go see Murder By Death at The Abbey. Like always, they put on a great show! Drew bought a beautiful silk screen print promoting the band - I will post more on that later this week! Until then, meet Miss Molly:

This is for an art show I have in May. I also put a print in my shop.

I am back from my little trip. Both London and Paris are wonderful cities. Ewa and Peter were amazing and took us in their care as far as navigating through England for our short time. I can’t wait to return. We were taken away by train to La Bella France - and she is a beaut! I loved Paris. It may have even passed Florence, Italy up on my favorite cities in Europe.
A few little snips of Paris:

Last night Drew and I whipped up some Nutella, banana, and blueberry crepes. I’ve also been completely relaxed the past few days - I’m sure the nice weather has helped too!

I also found Parisians to be nice, polite, and even delightful! People back here in the States are far more rude! Secretly, I am already planning my return to both London and Paris. It’s time to put the focus back in art now. I have a show in May and another in August. Just small ones, but I’d like to generate some new drawings and silk screens for these.
Well, back to reality, even though mentally I am still somewhere on the Seine eating a chocolate croissant.

I see London, I see France…
March 12, 2008 · No Comments
tomorrow I’ll be packing all my underpants.
It’s hard to believe I’ll be waking up and arriving on London Friday Morning. Shoot, I can’t believe I will be driving through the English Countryside on Saturday or finally visiting the Musee d’Orsay to pay my respects to Manet’s Olympia or even the lovely Mona Lisa. Like a kid on the last day of school, right before summer vacation, I am super excited and anxious to have an adventure unfolding right under me.

A little gift I painted for my friends, Ewa + Peter in England. They will be showing us around and since Ewa shares the same last name as me, we might even be related! We have been corresponding for over a year via email after she googled the last name “Tomczyk” and my website came up.
and with that, Adieu - A la prochaine!

Gold Deer
March 12, 2008 · No Comments
Monday night I thought it would be a brilliant idea to come home at 9:30 from a long day and do some screen printing. Four hours later I had my Gold Deer. 5 x 7 on Mr French cover stock now in the shop.

I am making a series of lawn ornament gocco prints. This is the first of several. Have you ever realized there is always one person in the neighborhood with a overabundance of lawn ornaments? - from bird feeders to ornate statues. I like these people. Here’s one example of a house in Pilsen I love:

I read maps - lots of them.
March 11, 2008 · No Comments
When I was little, my parents used to give me old road atlases. (I probably spent more time rearranging and reading maps than books.) I used to cut them out carefully plotting my courses, tagging cities I wanted to see, and configuring the miles. When I saw Selflesh on Etsy I was reminded of the beauty of maps. Selflesh’s art is beautifully crafted and sophisticated especially the way she plays with the combination of anatomy and maps.
Speaking of maps, I have some to study when I get home tonight. Three more days, and I’m leaving on a jet plane….

some weekend projects
March 9, 2008 · No Comments
It’s Sunday afternoon already! Where do the weekends go? Well, after months of spending time indoors, making art, cleaning, listening to Drew strumming on his guitar, I am longing for some time sitting on our back porch! Soon, Cindy, soon….
Some weekend projects:

Ella 5 X 7 drawing with gouache on cover stock paper with gouache.
I’ve done quite a few of these drawings and put them up in the shop. We will see how they do.

Mademoiselle

Last night, after finishing the rabbit drawing, I busted out another.

Mademoiselle
I put this lovely lady on my Etsy.
Drawing is like cooking for me. When I draw a lot, I tend to bake/cook a lot. Yesterday it was white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies and this morning I actually made breakfast. (I hardly even eat anything until lunch!) Later tonight, I will make curry chicken salad for lunch tomorrow. Bon Appetite!

Pretty Sunday

Met some friends to see Persepolis this afternoon. If you get a chance, go see it. The storyline, the characters, and the animation were all memorable. I especially enjoyed the main character, Marjane! And I do admit, a few times I got teary eyed. Having almost went to school for traditional animation, it was nice seeing the medium of animation used as an art to get across a beautiful story about a young girl. I am sure I will go to sleep tonight with the visuals still dancing in my head!
A little drawing I did today.
